ABOUT ‘THE BELVEDERE’, CHATSWORTH
Inspired by Chatsworth House, in the Peak District, this trompe l’oeil painting captures ‘The Belvedere’ at Chatsworth.
This painting was one of the first trompe l’oeil paintings I did in the style of a crumpled photograph. It allowed me to explore the idea of creating a realistic effect of crumpled and torn paper. This painting was particularly challenging in combining the perfections of architecture with a crumpled effect. With the dark navy background and carefully considered colour palette of the crumpled image, this piece beautifully captures ‘The Belvedere’ structure of a much loved stately home.
